Ahead of the 2023 general elections in Cross River State, student leaders in the state have joined the growing lists of supporters for the candidacy of the Senator Representing Cross River Southern Senatorial District, Sen Gershom Bassey, for the gubernatorial position in Cross River state come 2023.
Speaking during a solidarity turned carnival procession to the amiable Senator in Calabar by Student leaders in Cross River State, they enthusiastically passed a vote of confidence on the lawmaker for living up to expectations in his legislative and oversight functions.
Comr Icha Godswill, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), JCC Chairman Cross River State axis, thanked the Senator for investing in education through numerous student grants for educational activities.
The NANS chairman listed notebooks shared across campuses and other incentives courtesy of the Senator and his growing supporters as a means of promoting education in the country.
The Comrade Chairman urged the Senator to get more students involved in accessing the facilitated grants, adding that his advocacy in pushing for students involvement in PVCs seamless collection for the 2023 elections will know no rest till the aim is achieved.
Also speaking in solidarity for Sen. Bassey, Comr. Afufu Anthony, former President, Students Union Government, UNICAL, who also double as NANS National ex Officio 1 was full of thanks for the Senator and his strides on students welfarism through his numerous people-oriented projects. In his words
“Sen. Gershom Bassey believes in competency. students Community in Cross River State have observed his activities in the Red Chamber.
“Without fear or favor, the Nigerian Students are happy with him and they will give him their support to actualise his dream of becoming the next Governor.”
Also, on hand to give credence to the centrality of Sen. Bassey in the affairs of students in the state, Comr. Ovat Peter, President, National Association of Cross River state Students (NACRISS), who led a delegation of students Union Presidents in the state for the visit.
Comr. Ovat hinged their preference for the Senator on his proposed bursary clearance, distribution of tricycles and grants to students, a height he described as unprecedented.
Meanwhile, Comr. Ugah James, Students Union Government President, Unical, speaking on behalf of the Association of Cross River State students Union governments Presidents said the marmud crowd identifying with Sen. Gershom Bassey was as a result of his developmental strides at the Red Chamber including the school bus about to arrive the campus as a result of Sen. Bassey benevolence. According to Ugah James
“We have heard your voice on topical issues affecting the masses.
“we are seeing your empowerment program for all, and the elders, you are on course“.
“Thank you for the numerous grants which you have given to students and the bus which is set to arrive the campus for intra school transportation.” Ugah said
In his response, the Senator representing Cross River Southern Senatorial District, Sen. Gershom Bassey promised to send street lights to various campuses and to work with the Vice Chancellors and various Heads of the institutions to which he has a good relationship with to ensure every student benefit from his representation and his developmental thoughts. Sen Gershom Bassey says
“As for the outcry of non payment of bursary since 2015 when Gov Imoke paid and stopped, if given the mandate, I will pay the bursary to ease the stress of Nigerian students and to bring in necessary infrastructure that will aid the students’ security and well being.” Sen. Bassey emphasized.
